This time around Xiaomi has gone with a weak processor; Snapdragon 439. Snapdragon 439 is a weaker processor compared to the Snapdragon 632 used in the Redmi 7.

On the rear, we get a dual-camera setup with a 12MP main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, it has an 8MP selfie shooter. In terms of battery, we get a 5000 mAh battery compared to 4000 mAh battery on the Redmi 7. Plus, it also supports 18W fast charging.

Redmi 8A

The Redmi 8A is very similar to the Redmi 8 as it rocks the same processor. It also has a similar-sized HD display as that of the Redmi 8.

Design changes along with the absence of a depth sensor and a fingerprint sensor are one of the few changes.

Impressions

Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A are a definite upgrade in terms of design, battery, and charging. But no so much when it comes to other hardware like the processor. The Snapdragon 439 is weaker compared to Snapdragon 632 available on the Redmi 7.

Redmi 8 looks good but if you want more power you should look elsewhere. Redmi 7 which is more powerful than the Redmi 8 is priced at Rs. 14,999 (2/32GB) and Rs. 16,999 (3/32GB). So, we can see that Redmi 8 is a cheaper option but it a less powerful option as well. So, if you care about aesthetics much more than performance then you should go for the Redmi 8 otherwise the Redmi 7 is better.

Similarly, Redmi 8A is a facelift of the Redmi 7A. It uses the same processor but has a better design and bigger display. So, both of the devices are not a significant upgrade over it’s older counterparts.
